What is it?

In the Billing tab, you will now be able to attach one Sponsorship campaign to a Capped Balance and an unlimited number of Sponsorship/Non-Sponsorship campaigns to an Uncapped Balance.

The Capped Balance requirements for the campaign selected are as follows:

Sponsorships still require a dedicated balance when launching the campaign. When attempting to add other campaigns to the same balance, including sponsored products & non-sponsorship onsite display campaign types, the +Campaign button will now be grayed out.
The total budget for the campaign & line items must be less than or equal to the balance.
- Once the campaign has been added to the balance and the line items equal the amount of the balance, the line items will not be able to be increased without adding additional funds to the balance.
Once a sponsorship campaign is linked to a balance, it is not possible to link another campaign to the same balance.
Important: It is not possible to remove the sponsorship campaign from the existing balance and transfer it to a new one.
These rules apply to the below line item status:
- Active
- Budget Hit
- In Review
- Incomplete
- Scheduled
- Draft
- No Funds
- Paused

When it comes to Uncapped Balances, the rules are much less strict and are as follows:

Any number of sponsorship campaigns can be attached to a single balance.
Both open auction and sponsorship campaign types for Onsite display & Sponsored products can be combined within a single uncapped balance.
Campaign & line-item budgets can be adjusted freely at any time
Similar to the capped balance, once a campaign is tied to an uncapped balance it cannot be transferred to another balance.
Important: You will no longer be able to switch from an uncapped balance to capped if there is an existing sponsorship campaign tied to the balance.

Why?

Sponsorship campaign types haven’t historically had any balance requirements, which often led to over/underspending on campaigns and numerous billing issues post-campaign. To remedy this, limits have been added to balances to remove the user error when launching campaigns.
