What is Onsite Display?
Onsite Display is a Retail Media campaign type that shows display ads on a retailer's website or app. It uses the retailer's first-party data to reach shoppers while they browse or search, so you can build awareness and drive sales at the point of purchase.

You choose the pages, products, creatives, and audiences you want to run, and set your campaign up against the retailer's rate card and available inventory. Onsite Display runs on a cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM) basis, so you pay for impressions rather than clicks.
Onsite Display is one of two onsite campaign types. The other, Onsite Sponsored Products, uses native product ads billed per click. To learn more, please see Getting Started With Onsite Sponsored Products.
The Two Onsite Display Ad Types
Onsite Display gives you two kinds of ads. You choose between them when you build your creative.
Ad type | What it is | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
Commerce Display | Criteo's responsive ad format that combines your brand assets with retail-native features, such as add-to-cart and live product availability | Blend into the retail site and drive engagement with specific products |
Branding Display | Responsive banner ads, IAB-standard or custom, built from your own brand assets as static images or animated GIFs | Influence shoppers with your brand message |
What You Need Before You Launch
You need to set up three things before a campaign can run. The first two can be done in any order, but both must be ready before launch.
A creative. Decide which format you want to run and have the asset ready to upload. To learn more, please see Build an Onsite Creative.
An audience. Have a sense of who you want to reach; the platform guides you through building it. To learn more, please see Build an Onsite Audience.
A balance. A campaign needs a balance appended to it before it can spend. Your Criteo representative sets this up from your signed insertion order.
You build creatives and audiences in the Shared Library, then link them to your campaign during line item creation.
How Campaigns and Line Items Fit Together
A campaign is the container for your Onsite Display activity. It holds your attribution settings, ad preview, and frequency cap.
Each campaign holds one or more line items. A line item groups your ads by retailer, flight dates, creative, products, and targeting. One line item runs on one retailer, so you create a separate line item for each retailer you want to advertise with.
A campaign can run only once it has at least one line item and a balance appended to it.
Start Your First Campaign
Once your creative and audience are ready in the Shared Library, go to the Campaigns section and click +Campaign. You link your creative and audience later, during line item creation.
